Movie Theater Popcorn At Home

Recreate the classic taste and aroma of movie theater popcorn right in your own kitchen! This post reveals the key ingredients and techniques used by cinemas, including the secret to getting that perfect, buttery, non-soggy crunch and that distinct golden color. It's a simple recipe that uses a few key ingredients like fine salt and a specific type of oil to transform a basic snack into an authentic movie experience.
Course Dessert, dinner, Snack
Cuisine American

Equipment

  • 1 Large Stock Pot with Lid
  • Pot Holders (if needed)
  • Popcorn Bowls

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Orville Redenbacher Classic Kernals ONLY THESE WILL DO
  • 1 tbsp Coconut Oil Ghee works too
  • I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray
  • Extra Fine Salt (or "popcorn" salt) Blend in the Magic Bullet for 3-5 seconds

Instructions

  • Melt the Coconut Oil on medium heat with 5 kernels in the base, swish around
  • When these kernals start to pop, add the rest and cover with the lid
  • Shake the pot (with the lid on) often to prevent burning and avoid unpopped kernals
  • Once done, pour into a bowl and shake with salt and butter spray (don't be shy!)

Notes

Do Bowls in batches! Too much at once will leave you with overcooked popcorn and LOTS of uncooked kernalsĀ
